RaĆces Culturales Aventuras de Verano
Bilingual Multi-Cultural Summer Enrichment Program
Las Aventuras de Verano is a six-week summer enrichment program for Latino farm worker youth in Whatcom County, ages 5 to 11 years. The scheduled activities begin July 11 and continue through August 20, 2008. We will gather every Friday and selected Saturdays from 10am-4pm.
Volunteer staff will provide a structured and safe space for healthy play and allow the children to grow and feel whole within themselves by gaining pride in their cultural identity and exploring the interconnectedness of all peoples in Whatcom County.
Cooperativa Jacal Has a New Greenhouse!

Cooperativa Jacal members would like to thank the Community Food Coop’s Farm Fund for their generous contribution to their farm and for helping them purchase a new greenhouse for this season. Without support from local organizations like the Farm Fund, Cooperative Jacal would not be the successful operation that it is.

Originally from traditional family farming backgrounds in the hills of Michoacan, Mexico, Roberto Bermudez and Maria Guzman have made a home in Whatcom County for their four children and worked as professional farmworkers for over fifteen years. Last year they started producing independently and founded Cooperativa Jacal as an agrarian reform cooperative working toward social, environmental, and food justice here in Whatcom County.
The farm is up and in full bloom so keep an eye out for their fresh, organic, local produce at the Bellingham Farmer’s Market, the Ferndale Farmer’s Market and in other local stores near you. We also urge all our friends to support the Farm Fund! for more information on how you can support the Farm Fund contact Jean at 360-734-8158 for more information on Cooperativa Jacal or to purchase a CSA call Erin at 360-756-2478.
